Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]hED1 is a fluorine-18 labeled homoglutamic acid derivative designed as a novel positron emission tomography (PET) imaging radiotracer targeting the cystine/glutamate antiporter (System Xc–). System Xc– is an amino acid transport system that is upregulated in glioblastoma and associated with increased treatment resistance. Developed by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and Indiana University School of Medicine, [18F]hED1 has demonstrated clear radiotracer accumulation within tumor tissue and renal clearance in preclinical glioblastoma models. The adaptable radiolabeling chemistry of the homoglutamic acid derivative also suggests compatibility with therapeutic radionuclides (such as iodine-131 or astatine-211), highlighting its potential as a theranostic agent.
